Medical Hypnoanalysis is method of treating psychological and sometimes physical problems using hypnosis as the major tool in resolving the problem. In this modality hypnosis itself is not considered a therapy in and of itself but a means of being able to resolve the cause of the problem.
This Treatment method was developed by a group of medical doctors and dentists in the late 50’s and early 60’s as an means of rapidly resolving psychological problems interfering with medical treatment and dental procedures. Initially it was only taught to medical doctors and dentists and was relatively obscure in the world of psychologists, social workers, marriage and family therapists, and counselors. Eventually these mental health professionals were permitted to be trained by the organization that oversaw training.
Unfortunately, the many myths about hypnosis and disdain for a method that uses a medical model by some mental heath practitioners helped prevent the growth of the method.
